Giorgio Malan won the gold medal at the European Games in Krakow, guaranteeing Italia Team a third individual pass from the modern pentathlon for Paris 2024.

After an excellent performance in the equestrian event, the pentathlete from Piedmont dropped a few places in the fencing rankings but recovered quickly with swimming. Starting fifth in the laser run with six seconds to go, the Italian set the pace in the race from the very first lap. His precision in the two final rounds made the difference, with the Italian pentathlete finishing ahead of Britain’s Joseph Choong and Hungary’s Csaba Bohm.

Malan, therefore, joins Elena Micheli, victor in the Ankara finals in early June, and Alice Sotero, winner in Poland in the women’s competition but already assured of a place in Paris 2024 after qualifying for the finals.
