3,250,000 tickets have already been sold for the Paris 2024 Games. The figure was revealed by Etienne Thobois, CEO of the French Olympics to be held from 26 July to 11 August next year, at a media briefing organised with the Italian press. As the CEO of Paris 2024 explained, for the organisers, ticket sales so far have been “a great success. For the first time in the history of the Games we are selling tickets exclusively on a single, centralised digital platform, open to everyone at the same time".

Football, athletics and rugby sevens are currently the sports in highest demand, but there is no shortage of surprises. The sport climbing and BMX cycling competitions, for example, have already sold out. Approximately two thirds of the tickets sold have been bought in France, followed by the UK and the US, Germany and the Netherlands, while Italy currently ranks 15th in terms of the number of ticket applications. “We don't have exact data, but there have probably also been purchases by Russian and Belarusian citizens", Thobois said in response to questions from the Italian press. “The platform is open to everyone, we are not banning anyone from buying tickets".

From today until 20 April, the window opens to register and participate in the draw for the sale of individual tickets which is due to start on 11 May. “As we promised, it will be an Olympics for everyone", emphasised Thobois. “We have around one million cheap tickets available, with prices starting from €24.” There are different prices, of course, for the opening ceremony (where tickets can fetch up to €2,700) and for the athletics, swimming and basketball finals (with a maximum cost close to €1,000). “Our tickets are cheaper than those of Tokyo 2020 (sold before the decision to hold the events behind closed doors due to the pandemic, ed). Prices are in line with those of the London Games considering inflation, although it is difficult to make sport-on-sport comparisons", Thobois specified. The goal is ambitious: to reach 10 million ticket sales for the Paris 2024 Games.
