The heart of Marseille beats for football, so it was a logical step for the Olympic tournament to be staged there in 2024. Stade Vélodrome is France’s second largest stadium. Built in 1937 in the capital of the Bouches-du-Rhône region, Stade Vélodrome underwent several renovations through to its most recent one which was completed in 2014, covering the stadium and its curved stands with an impressive roof. Its pitch has welcomed all of the major competitions organised in France: 1938 and 1998 Football World Cups, 1984 and 2016 Euro Football Championships, and 2007 Rugby World Cup. It will logically be the stage for matches from the 2023 Rugby World Cup and Paris 2024.
