Chateau de Versailles

The Palace of Versailles is a universal iconic symbol of the history of France. In 2024, it is opening up its magnificent grounds for the Paris Games, offering spectators and TV audiences an exceptional and groundbreaking spectacle.

From a simple hunting lodge when it was first built to the epicentre of French royalty when it was home to the court of Louis XIV in 1682, the Palace of Versailles (78) is today a monument that is visited by millions of tourists each year. In 2024, it is being temporarily fitted out to stage several equestrian and modern pentathlon events. A temporary outdoor arena, flanked by several stands, is being set up on the Etoile Royale esplanade at the heart of the Palace’s gardens, in a magnificent setting.

Thanks to overlay facilities, certain Paris 2024 events will be staged in a truly exceptional and historical setting. A temporary outdoor arena, flanked by several stands, will be set up on the Etoile Royale esplanade, to the west of the Grand Canal, at the heart of the Palace’s gardens. This arena will stage two eventing disciplines (dressage test and jumping), as well as the jumping and dressage competitions. The individual and team eventing cross-country section will be held alongside the Grand Canal, while the five modern pentathlon events will also be organised at the Château de Versailles.
