The Seville marathon provides significant results for Italian athletics as they prepare for Paris 2024: Italy is now certain of being able to field three men in the Olympic race scheduled for August 10th in the heart of the French capital.

In the second marathon of his career, Yeman Crippa (photo Phototoday) produced an Italian record with a time of 2h06:06, taking one minute and ten seconds off the previous record of 2h07:16 set last year in Barcelona by Iliass Aouani. But also making their presence felt in Seville was fellow Italian Eyob Faniel, who in turn fell below the previous record with 2h07:09, the second best Italian performance ever, and Daniele Meucci, who set a personal best with 2h07:49, the sixth best Italian performance of any era.

As of today, the Italia Team has qualified six marathon runners: Yeman Crippa, Eyob Faniel, Iliass Aouani, Nekagenet Crippa and Daniele Meucci eligible by standard and Yohanes Chiappinelli eligible by ranking quota.

However, there are only three places available for each National Olympic Committee per gender. The coming months will therefore be decisive in defining the Azzurri who will compete in the iconic 42.195 km distance.

The qualifying period set by FIDAL will, in fact, end on 5 May and the final decision of the technical sector directed by Antonio La Torre will be shared with CONI.

Already confirmed, however, is the women’s situation with Giovanna Epis and Sofiia Yaremchuk certain of their presence in Paris.
