The path towards Olympic qualification of the Italian foil teams got off to a good start.

In Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the quartet composed of Alice Volpi, Martina Favaretto, Francesca Palumbo and Erica Cipressa made it onto the podium in the World Cup stage that inaugurates the fencing teams' build-up towards the Paris 2024 Games. Top seeded, the Azzurre started the round by beating Romania 45-22. They also had a clear triumph against Poland, who were defeated 45-25 in the quarter finals. In the semi-finals, Italy won 45-40 against Canada, while in the final it was France who claimed the win 45-41. The fencers therefore took the runner-up spot.

There was a similar fate for the Azzurri in Acapulco. In Mexico, Tommaso Marini, Daniele Garozzo, Alessio Foconi and Filippo Macchi started by overcoming Belgium 45-26. They then had a 45-33 victory over Korea, while in the semi-finals Italy won 45-40 against France. They were unable to defeat the United States in the final, who emerged as victors with a 45-41 win. The fencers ended the event in runner-up spot, collecting precious points in the run-up towards Paris 2024.
