Biography
“Gimmo” is one of the youngest of Campagna's Settebello team. With his many stops and saves, however, he is already deriving significant satisfaction from his efforts. Maturity and perseverance, indeed, are the qualities that allowed him to scale the heights in Gwangju in 2019. As a child, he began swimming without much enthusiasm. Later he discovered water polo and ended up falling in love with it. He first tried out the role of goalkeeper almost by accident, to replace an injured teammate. With his imposing and honed physique, however, he soon realised that he could make the biggest difference between the posts. In 2015, he also came to the fore with the Under-20 national team, in which he was one of the protagonists, winning the world silver medal. Now he is ready to take part in Paris 2024, his second Olympic experience. His role model is former Italian goalkeeper Stefano Tempesti, whose successes he dreams of emulating, especially at Olympic level.
