Born in Livorno in 1995, Francesca Fangio initially excelled in the breaststroke as well as the 200 and 400-metre individual medley. She was called up to the National Team and competed in the European Junior Championships in Belgrade. In 2014, she finished second in the National Finals and solidified her elite status with a national victory in 2015. Six years later, she set the Italian record in the 200-metre breaststroke, surpassing a record held by Ilaria Scarcella for twelve years, and made her Olympic debut in Tokyo. The pool at the Foro Italico in Rome saw her climb onto the European podium for the first time in 2022, earning silver in the mixed 4x100-metre medley relay.
