Biography

He started swimming at the age of six to alleviate back problems. Despite his initial reluctance, he succeeded in crafting an extraordinary journey, which commenced after years of solitary training in the small pool of Satriano di Lucania. A relentless practitioner of the sport, he has always harboured a fondness for long distances, eventually stepping into the spotlight due to his undeniable qualities of perseverance and professionalism, coupled with his innate talent as a marathon swimmer. In 2016, he missed qualifying for the European Championships in London but, aware of his potential, he made the decision to leave Basilicata, moving first to Naples and then to the capital, where he came into contact with champions of the calibre of Gabriele Detti and Gregorio Paltrinieri. In 2019, he officially began his exciting journey in open water and the results fully justified his choice. His magic year was 2022 when, in the space of a few months, he won silver at the World Championships in Budapest and gold at the European Championships in Rome. At the beginning of 2024, he figured strongly in the World Championships in Doha, the pathway to winning a ticket to the Olympic Games in Paris. And his attempt to try to climb the last, most important step.
