Biography
From Cabiate (Como), in 2004 she took up athletics with middle-distance running, but since 2007, due to the consequences of an injury, she switched to race-walking. In 2014, she placed fifth in the World Cup in Taicang and set the Italian record in the 20 km race at 1h27:05. In addition, she shattered the national records for the indoor 3000 meters (11:50.08) and the 5000 meters on the track (20:01.80, the best world performance ever) during the same season. In 2015, in the space of two months, she twice broke the Italian record in the 20 km, becoming the first Italian woman to go under one hour and 27 minutes (1h26:46 on 21 March in Dudince and 1h26:17 on 17 May in the European Cup in Murcia). In 2019, her 50 km debut with victory and European record (4h04:50) at the European Cup in Alytus and bronze at the World Championships in Doha. With a degree in economics from Bocconi University in Milan, she is the partner of another Italian marathon runner, Matteo Giupponi, and in November 2022 she gave birth to little Leone. In Paris 2024, she is ready to chance her arm in yet another Olympic appearance.
