Biography

He first got on a bicycle at a very young age, when his father Marco, who competed in Los Angeles 1984 in canoeing, decided to organise a cyclocross race near home. Since then he has never looked back, alternating between track and road. In 2016 in London he amazed the whole world when, at 19 years old, he took the world title in the individual pursuit competing against the “big guns”. He then gave a repeat performance in 2018, 2019, and 2020, also becoming a fixture of the team quartet. Filippo is an all-round athlete and, while still early in his career, he has already made his mark on the road. In 2019 he took bronze in the world championship time trial (earning qualification for the Olympic race) and in the following year the world championship gold. He has consistently pursued the great classics of the North, notably Paris-Roubaix, already conquered with the under-23s. However, in 2021, he realised his big dream by guiding the Italian pursuit quartet to the top step of the podium at the Olympics in Tokyo and the World Championships in Roubaix and retaining the gold in the road time trial. Paris will be his third Olympic experience and he has an ambitious goal: standing on the podium in both road and track events.
