Biography
At the age of five, Paolo Conte Bonin’s father, Gianfranco, asked him to choose between football, tennis, and swimming. Despite not knowing why, he opted for the pool. Starting at CN Tezze, coaches quickly recognised his talent, steering him towards competitive swimming. Born in 2002, Paolo hails from the same region as fellow Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon. In 2022, he was part of the 4x100-metre freestyle relay team that clinched world championship gold in the short course in Melbourne, setting a world record (3:02.75). His career's turning point came a year earlier when he joined the speed training hub in Ostia, on the Roman coast, after a challenging season due to health issues. By 2024, he had cemented his prowess in the 50-metre events, winning silver at the World Championships in Doha with his relay teammates. Outside the pool, Paolo is the quintessential nice guy, who enjoys spending time with family and friends. Humble, polite and kind, his debut at the Paris Olympics is a well-deserved reward.
