Biography
At 33 years old, she is still one of the best judokas in her weight category (-70 kg). Born in Zevenhuizen, with the Dutch flag on her chest she won four European golds, in addition to winning the Masters title four times and holding the world ranking lead between 2013 and 2017. In 2016, she decided to move to Italy and began training at the Accademia Torino. She currently resides in San Mauro Torinese with her husband Andrea Regis (a former judoka) and their daughter Aurora, who was born in May 2022. Just eight months after giving birth, she was already back on the tatami, earning a prestigious third place at the Grand Slam level. An untamed champion, she is also a proud exponent of the 'dual career', having graduated in 2017 as a primary school teacher from the University of Applied Sciences in Haarlem. In April 2024, the IJF gave her the green light for her change of nationality, which was also endorsed by the IOC Executive Board in June. Wearing the colours of Italy, she wants to make history right away at the Paris Olympic Games.
