Biography
He took his first jumps on the island of Cuba. At nine years old, his mother took him to an athletics track for the first time and, after a brief foray into high jump and long jump, he found his true calling in the triple jump, the event also practised by his cousin. In 2021, he was part of the Caribbean delegation at the Tokyo 2020 Games but could not compete due to an injury. Subsequently, he chose to leave his country to pursue his dreams and try to fulfil himself both as a man and as an athlete. To do so, he chose Italy and the Azzurri coach Fabrizio Donato, the 2012 London Olympic triple jump bronze medallist, who took him under his wing, welcomed him into his home, and helped him through the process of obtaining Italian citizenship, which he acquired in February 2023 by virtue of his sporting merits. In June, he jumped 17.75m at the Golden Gala in Florence, surpassing the previous national record (17.60m) set in 2000 by his own coach. The winner of the Diamond League in both 2022 and 2023, at the start of 2024 he was enlisted in the Fiamme Gialle (Financial Police) and began training at the Castelporziano facility in Rome. In addition to the track, his other great passions are dancing and Roman cuisine: from carbonara to cornetti to supplì (rice croquettes). A young man with remarkable mental strength and undisputed talent, at Paris 2024 he is ready for his true Olympic debut.
