Biography
Judo is a family affair. She is the daughter of Raffaele Toniolo and Monica Barbieri, aces in this discipline and now internationally respected coaches. Her uncles Massimo and Pierangelo are also coaches and for her, after a few years of artistic gymnastics, the choice of the tatami came quite naturally and, with hindsight, was a winning one. She became the first Italian female ever to win European and world titles at both cadet and junior level. Then came Olympic gold in the mixed team at the 2018 YOG in Buenos Aires. The prestigious results continued to come in the senior category, where she collected two podium finishes in Grand Prix events and one in a Grand Slam tournament, achievements that established her at the top of the world ranking in her weight category. Shy and reserve outside competitions but gladiatorial on the tatami, she is ready to go through new steps to arrive prepared in the best possible way for the appointment par excellence: the Olympic debut, among the leading figures in Paris 2024.
