Biography
He is a sportsman through and through. He tried many, including swimming and running, but eventually decided to follow the passion of his father and his brother Nicola, a former professional cyclist. He obtained a diploma in mechanical engineering and considered further studies in the area, but he quickly abandoned this idea: cycling is the only thing he thinks about. He turned professional in 2020 and in a few years managed to establish himself as one of the most natural talents in Italian road cycling. His style is characterised by endurance and fast sprint finishes – qualities that have helped him to improve season after season. He concluded 2023 in style: he took third place at the Coppa Bernocchi, first at the Gran Piemonte and second at the Giro di Lombardia, where he surrendered only to Slovenian star Tadej Pogacar. Thanks to the three consecutive podiums, he has made a remarkable leap in the world rankings, winning one of the three national spots reserved for Italy for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
