Biography
Her love for sailing burst out at the age of six watching her older brother, Federico, race. Talent, on the other hand, is innate and Chiara Benini Floriani demonstrated this very early on. Youth world champion in the Laser 4.7 class in 2018 and again world championship winner the following year in the Laser Radial category, the Trentino-born, 2001-year-old is ready to experience her first Olympics as a protagonist. Born in Rovereto and resident in Riva del Garda but often travelling for training and competitions, Chiara’s sporting education was at Fraglia Vela Riva. Determined and always positive, with a passion for cooking and a particular admiration for the American alpine skiing champion Mikaela Shiffrin, the young Italian sailor’s big break came in 2021 thanks to the double silver medal she won at the Under-21 European and World Championships, a place she also achieved at the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran, her first important podium at senior level. Summer 2023 saw the Fiamme Gialle athlete clinch third place in the Olympic test event hosted in the waters of Marseille, marking a significant step towards the cherished dream, never concealed but quietly nurtured: to win an Olympic gold medal.
