Biography
He was born in Rome but moved to Scotland with his family at a very tender age. He tried to play football and then took up golf, but living in a small town without so many fellow players, he began sailing with his dog in the sea in front of his home. Well-built, mild-mannered and with a remarkable talent, Lorenzo Brando loves the water and soon began to show his skills at the regattas. Two major injuries seriously threatened to jeopardise his career. Nevertheless, he managed to tackle the physical rehabilitation with a smile and returned to the world of sailing with a degree in Navigation and Maritime Science from Plymouth University. He began competing for Italy in 2022 and, beneath the Italian flag, first came to prominence at the Dutch World Championships in 2023. Here he managed to fulfil his personal Olympic dream, which had unluckily eluded him on several occasions in the past. In Paris 2024 he is aiming to bring all his courage and dedication – qualities that he has never lost, even in the darkest of moments.
