Biography

He has lived in Italy since the beginning of 2008, when his family moved from Romania to Trebaseleghe (in the province of Padua) to join his father. Around the age of 12, encouraged by his brothers, he began his athletic journey on the track in Noale (Venice). Initially, he competed in some international tournaments for his country of origin, but in November 2021, after a bureaucratic process initiated in 2018, he swore allegiance to Italian citizenship. March 2022, he was able to wear the jersey of the Azzurri and celebrated his national team debut with a bronze medal in the 800 metres at the Mediterranean Games. In 2023, he lowered his times to 1:45.99 indoors (second-fastest Italian ever) and 1:44.79 outdoors. At the start of 2024, he became the Italian indoor record holder with his victory at the Madrid meeting in 1:45.00, breaking Giuseppe D'Urso's 31-year-old record (1:45.44 in 1993), and narrowly missed the podium at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow. In June he won the European bronze at the Olympic Stadium in Rome while the following month he achieved a personal best (1:43.75) in the ninth stage of the Diamond League in Monte Carlo, coming close to setting Marcello Fiasconaro's Italian record. A graduate of a professional mechanics institute and a lover of all genres of music, he is ready to give it his all in Paris as well, shoulder to shoulder.
