Biography
He was born in Livorno but at the age of three moved to Sellia Marina, in the province of Catanzaro. There, he learnt the art of kicking and punching thanks to his father Salvatore, a paratrooper and former taekwondo practitioner. It was love at first sight, which blossomed from an early age and was cultivated thanks to the support of his parents. After achieving numerous international successes in youth competitions, he came of age in 2019 in Manchester, where he won the title in the -74 kg class, becoming the first Italian taekwondoka to win a world gold medal. Something about the English city makes him feel at home and in 2022 he again climbed onto the first step of the podium, this time at European level and in the -80 kg. The following year in Baku he underlined his strength in the new category, winning the title of world champion. A big fan of AS Roma, on the square he makes the motto mors tua, vita mea his own. In Paris 2024, he wants to put the Tokyo disappointment behind him and set his sights on the only gold still missing from his collection: the Olympic gold.
