Biography
Her friends call her 'Za', but her Arabic name means wisdom. Of Ivorian origin, she arrived in Italy in 2009 from Abidjan and joined her family, who had moved seven years earlier. A basketball enthusiast, she discovered athletics at 13 thanks to her physical education teacher, demonstrating an evident superiority over her peers from her very first appearances. She acquired Italian citizenship in 2016. During the 2022 indoor season, she made a series of improvements in the 60m, equalling Marisa Masullo's national record (7.19 in 1983) twice and bettering it with times of 7.16 and 7.14 recorded in Ancona and at the World Championships in Belgrade, respectively. In the 100m, she lowered her time to 11.19, establishing herself as the second-fastest Italian ever. A European bronze medallist in the 4x100m relay in Munich, in 2023 she equalled her indoor 60m national record and also matched Manuela Levorato's national 100m record (11.14). At the World Championships in Budapest, she finished fourth in the relay after setting a national record of 42.14 in the heats. At the beginning of 2024, she improved the Italian indoor 60m record three times, culminating in 7.02, and won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, as well as clocking 11.02 in the 100m at the Savona meeting (a new solo national record). In June, she won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Rome. Her other great passions are photography and dancing, and in Paris 2024 she wants to launch Italian sprinting into orbit.
