Biography
With energy and strength in abundance, Elena, at only 20 years old, was the revelation of the 2019 World Championships even though her silver medal was not entirely a surprise to those in the know. She started swimming at the age of five, before venturing into running and other sports; a member of SS Lazio since 2005, she continued to collect medals and youth titles, both in relay and individual competitions. Her first breakthrough came in 2016 on the “grown-up tour”, when the teenager from Rome took part in two World Cup stages, immediately qualifying for the grand final in Sarasota, Florida. In 2017, she joined the Gruppo Sportivo Carabinieri, helping to raise her technical level. In 2021, she finished 33rd in her first Olympic experience in Tokyo. She immediately remade herself in the following two years, in which she won two world titles respectively in Alexandria and Bath. In 2023 also a win in the World Cup final in Ankara secured her participation in Paris 2024, her second Olympics.
