Biography
Originally from Salaparuta, a small village in the Trapani region of Sicily located in the Belice river valley, he became passionate about weights while at school, thanks to a video projected during physical education class and watched in preparation for the Youth Games. He made the first step of the podium at the European Championships three times in a row, and in 2017 he won third place in the world championships in the United States, 32 years after the last world championship podium, achieved by Norberto Oberburger. His peak, however, came with the bronze medal won at the Tokyo 2020 Games. A student of Sports Science, he is nicknamed “Caterpillar” on the mat because of the strength and energy he manages to put into every lift. His sporting idol is former Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic and in his spare time he enjoys skiing, as well as following motor sports competitions on television or live. A lover of speed whose father is a former rally driver, he does not want to shirk the limelight: in Paris 2024 he will be in the race for another Olympic medal.
