Biography
The Olympic shooting range is his home. And while opponents come and go and teammates change, he, at 53 years old, remains and keeps on winning. He took up shooting at just 18 with the help of his mother, who also practised the sport. His trophy cabinet boasts four individual Olympic medals, four world and three European titles and many other top finishes – as well as an Italian Junior Ballroom Dancing Champion title. But “Johnny” from Vercelli also manages to hit the target with the most needy, thanks to the solidarity group JP Shooting Team. After meeting with Pope John Paul II in the Vatican in 2000, his faith blossomed. Since Barcelona ‘92, he has been chasing an Olympic gold medal. The games in Paris will be his eighth Summer Olympics: he will equal the record of Piero and Raimondo D’Inzeo, and the canoeist Josefa Idem.
