Biography

She was born in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, in the province of Lucca, to an Italian father and Polish mother, but grew up in Carrara and Forte dei Marmi. Her maternal grandfather is Ghanaian and she has a younger brother named William, who is also a tennis player. She owes her tennis career largely to her uncle Adriano, one of the first to notice her potential, leading her to the TC Mirafiume club, from where her rise began. The turning point came in early 2016, when she began collaborating with her current coach Renzo Furlan to then continue full-time after the pandemic. She really cemented her status in 2024, when she won the WTA 1000 in Dubai and reached the final of Roland Garros in both singles and doubles alongside Sara Errani, with whom she triumphed the previous month at the Internazionali d'Italia. At the beginning of July she became the first Italian woman in history to reach the final in Wimbledon. Ranked world No. 5, in 2023 she led Italy to the final of the Billie Jean King Cup. Spontaneous and always smiling, she arrives in Paris 2024 for her second Olympics: her focus is already on the next imminent goals.
