Biography
She is one of the legends of Italian tennis. In her record, in addition to the three Fed Cups won wearing the Italian jersey, there are also five Grand Slam titles, clinched with her longstanding doubles partner Roberta Vinci. In singles, her best ranking is world No. 5 achieved in May 2013 and, in addition to nine titles, she boasts appearances in the two finals she reached at the French Open and the Internazionali d'Italia in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Since the beginning of 2024, her partner has been Jasmine Paolini, with whom she triumphed at the Foro Italico and reached the final at Roland Garros. She is a blend of grit, superb technique and courage, a mix that allows her to surpass her limits every day. She describes herself as shy, joyful and responsible; she watches football and basketball on television and, when she has a free moment, she enjoys playing Monopoly or cards. At 37 years old, she will be enjoying her fifth Olympics, this time in Paris: a place where she has already had historic results.
