Biography
As a child, he always dressed up as Zorro, the famous masked hero created by American writer Johnston McCulley in 1919, whose exploits he playfully emulated with his toy sword. At 10 years old, advised by his father and after attending a course by fencing master Simone Piccini at his younger sister Chiara's kindergarten (she is also a fencer), he began fencing in his hometown of Pisa and, in a short time, was already on the piste facing his first competitions. Shy only in private life, over the years he has established himself as an integral part of the Italian team where, among other medals, he won the European gold in Antalya in 2022 and the world title in Milan the following year. Behind his second Olympic appearance in Paris 2024 is an enormous amount of work, which began years ago in a gym with champions of the calibre of Salvatore Sanzo, from whom he almost fearfully asked for an autograph. Now he is the one who signs them.
