Biography
He began practising fencing almost by chance, thanks to the advice a man gave him while queuing at the barber with his mother and older brother Riccardo. After four years as a pure foil fencer, he decided to combine his original choice of weapon with sabre, which turned out to be a winning choice. Winning the 2004 U18 World Championships in Bulgaria opened up boundless horizons for him. He grew up admiring Aldo Montano, with whom he shared many successes, including the bronze and silver team medals won respectively in London 2012 and Tokyo 2020, editions in which he also secured the second step of the podium in the individual event. The partner of Ukrainian sabre fencer Olga Kharlan, a multiple Olympic medallist like himself, he is a fan of sports across the globe, and his idols are footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and tennis players Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Despite being 36, he has not yet had his fill of successes and medals, and on the platforms of Paris 2024 he is looking forward to encountering the most beautiful sensation: the Olympic experience.
