Biography
Born in El Paso, United States. His mother, having married a Texan, returned to Italy when he was still a young child. As a teenager, he played basketball, following in his father's footsteps, as well as football and swimming. At 10, however, he was tempted by sprinting and began training on the track in Desenzano del Garda, in the province of Brescia. He established himself as an excellent long jumper but, following a knee injury in 2018, he returned to sprinting with a time of 10.08 seconds in the 100 metres. A year later, he lowered his time to 10.03 (the third-fastest Italian of all time), before setting the national record (38.11) with the 4x100m relay at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. In 2021, he claimed the Italian 100m record (9.95), becoming the second Italian ever to break the 10-second barrier. At the Tokyo Games, he then achieved a double feat, winning gold medals in both the 100m (European record of 9.80) and the relay (Italian record of 37.50). The following year, he also captured the world indoor 60m title (European record of 6.41) and the outdoor European title in Munich, a feat he repeated in June 2024 at the Olimpico in Rome, where he also topped the podium in the 4x100m. He has three children: Anthony and Meghan, with his wife Nicole (whom he married in September 2022), and Jeremy, from a previous relationship. A great Formula 1 enthusiast, at Paris 2024 he is ready to put the pedal to the metal and battle to defend his thrones.
